Honda has done quite well with the Honda Jazz. Recognized as one of the better small cars on the market today, Honda is not surprisingly a little scared to change the look of the car which has done well. The car is also slightly larger, and this has translated into a slightly larger interior as well.
As far as packaging goes, the new Jazz pretty much the same as the first generation model, with only a few evolutionary changes, all of which seem to offer little improvement in the practical.
As you can see from the picture, the new Jazz is easily recognizable as a Jazz. AutoExpress who blessed us with photographs of the report that the new Jazz will be the same height as the current model. But it would be 50mm longer and 20mm wider.
All of this is actually a lot of good news that it might sound. You see, the first Jazz was so well thought out and implemented that in the seven years since its launch, there is nothing approaching the super mini segment.
Jazz currently leads the class in interior room, new forms would not differ from the boot of 400 liters. In China, small-capacity diesel will be available for the first time.
And because the Jazz out of it ahead of the game until today, news that the new Jazz is only slightly better off simply means that a little further than the nearest rival.
Comfort has been improved thanks to a better front seats and rear, now offers pads are thicker, and better support. Front seats are very good. The rear seats now have headrests that can fold under the shoulder line, which allows it to fold flat 60/40 split rear seat. In the front seat of the old Jazz must move out of the way first. The car has grown a bit too, but do not feel bigger than the old Jazz, which is roomy for a small car. Fit and finish the cabin has been refined, too, with better quality plastics, more supportive seats and rake and reach-adjustable steering that gives a better driving position. A new dashboard is easier on the eyes, while in the rear seat passengers will appreciate the length increases, which provide more legroom 40mm.
However, in their quest for greater interior and increased load capacity, Honda’s designers have decided to drop the spare tire support repair kit. This frees up about 43 extra liters of boot space, up to 427 liters.
Under the hood, more dramatic modifications. While the Jazz currently has 1.2 or 1.4 liter gasoline power, new entrants will get a choice of 1.3 liter unit producing 99bhp, or a 1.5 liter engine producing 118bhp.
Both engines feature Honda’s latest i-VTEC variable valve technology the time, and manual or CVT automatic gearbox is available with either. Honda claims that the 1.3 liter will return 68mpg, while the 1.5 will give you 55mpg. The company declined to confirm whether the oil-burner is in the pipeline, but we demand a single source will be added to the range.
The performance of our test car 1.5 liter powerplant is impressive, pushing the Jazz from 0-60mph in just under nine seconds. Pushing hard, however, and high-pitched whine above 5,000 rpm to be rather unpleasant, like the CVT gearbox fights to compete with top-end revs.
