In 1939, Chrysler will be strong and look forward to the future. It has survived the Depression with low cost models of Dodge and Plymouth, and Chrysler’s mid-priced car that competes with the Cadillac. Chrysler has three basic models and, with three different sizes of cars to choose from, many options are available.
Chrysler New Yorker Special was introduced in 1938, and in 1939 the name was simplified to just the New Yorker. Chrysler’s aerodynamic cars of this era ahead of their time, but sales struggle in the late 30′s. The car has been run from 58 years.

No less important is the new “Superfinish” process that cuts friction by adding a mirror finish for the engine and chassis components. The 323.5-cid straight eight, with a Stromberg carburetor and ignition Spark Solar, delivered 130 horsepower at 3400 rpm. A package of high compression can increase the output of 138 bhp. Inside, the “Safety-Signal” speedometer displayed trio of warning lights: green below 30 mph, at 30-50 yellow, and red over 50 mph.
A column-mounted gearshift become available, and can be ordered with a new Fluid Drive – oil-filled flywheel that ultra-smooth takeoff allowed. Hard fluids will serve as the basis for the next transmission Chrysler tiptoe-shift semi-automatic.
Six-cylinder engine produced 100 horsepower. It has four main bearings and has a ratio of 6.5-to-1 compression. The bore and stroke 3 3 / 8 inches by 4.5 inches. It has a single-barrel carburetor. Eight cylinders have one or two barrel carburetors are available. It has a compression ratio of 6.8-to-one and produces 141 horsepower. The cars have three-speed standard transmission, but automatic is available on top end models. The suspension comes from the coil springs front and rear leaf spring. The New Yorker had a straight eight-cylinder, L-head 323 cubic-inch engine with 134 horsepower. The car had a compression ratio of 6.8 to 1, and a bore and stroke of 3 1/4 and 4 7/8 inches.

The 1939 New Yorker unveiled “superfinish,” a process in which parts were finished with a mirror-like surface, which offered additional protection.
